Several different techniques are useful in ridding kitchen cabinets or other parts of a house of cockroaches, and they are most effective in treating an infestation and preventing or getting rid of cockroach return as a pest control strategy. House kitchen set up in Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret, Kakamega Kenya prompts cockroaches to invade the kitchen and other areas to search for food at night and hide in dark, protected spots during the day. Here are some of the options;

  1. Evacuate hiding areas

Whenever possible, caulk or otherwise seal all cracks in the cupboard and on the structure’s exterior, Inspect any furniture, appliances and food delivery for cockroaches and egg cases before bringing them indoors, especially if items were kept outdoors or in storage. Increase light and air circulation next to the building by pruning back overgrown vegetation and removing stacked wood and other items from next to the building.

  1. Trap the Pests

Trapping may capture some of the cockroaches, but it is often most effective as a monitoring tool, allowing you to gauge whether or not cockroaches are present and if your efforts to get rid of the cockroaches have had a significant impact on the pest population. Place commercially available sticky traps close to where you suspect cockroaches are active and in all corners of a room, as well as behind kitchen appliances and in the cabinets. Inspect traps daily and keep track of where the greatest number of cockroaches are caught. This will ideally help you to determine where cockroaches are entering or feeding and guide bait placement. Dispose of traps in a sealed plastic bag in the trash.

  1. Control with Chemicals

Commercially available disposable or refillable bait stations are designed to hold gel, paste or pellets of bait that could contain boric acid, hydramethylnon or imidacloprid. Where small children or pets are present, choose bait stations that are child-resistant and place them where they cannot be reached by children or pets. Gel baits are helpful for treating cracks and crevices where you suspect cockroach activity, but they require reapplication every few days as they dry out. Dust that contains boric acid is also useful for crack and crevice treatment and in areas like under sinks where a light film of dust will not come into contact with humans, pets or food. Baits and dusts are fairly slow-acting, so you may not notice a decrease in cockroach numbers or activity for several days after treatment.
